Averett University had 80 student-athletes earn USA South Academic All-Conference honors for the 2015-16 year, the conference announced on Wednesday.

Averett University's Department of Athletics celebrated the 2015-16 year with its annual awards ceremony on Sunday night at Pritchett Auditorium in the Violet T. Frith Fine Arts Center.

Wearing sweatpants and a hoodie, Alfredo Garcia Huerta headed out the front door one day in late December 2009. It was the start of a journey that has him running Monday's Boston Marathon.
